Linking the BOM/Cutlist Tables to Balloons in a Drawing View

Recently we have received some questions where customers seeing the balloon numbers displaying incorrectly to the Item Numbers in the BOM table.

Here is the way of linking the Balloons to specified table:

  • Insert a drawing view of your model.
  • Inert a BOM for the drawing view.
  • Right click on the drawing view and select “Properties..”
  • Check box the “Link balloon text to specified table” and select the desired BOM:Drawing View Properties

Sometimes, customer will need to have individual parts inserted as new drawing views on a new sheet, and also having them ballooned with the Item numbers referring to the BOM that was created on the first sheet.

In this case, we can use the same process to link the balloons to the BOM under each individual drawing view properties:

If there is another BOM inserted into the same drawing, e.g. for a asub-assembly under the main assembly, we can then choose which table the balloon text is linked to. In the screen shot below, I inserted 2 drawing views of the same part and linked them to different BOMs in the same drawing. We can see the Item number showing differently now (I had to change the BOM1 to be Indented and show detailed numbering first):

If your assembly contains any parts that has a weldment cutlist, you can also include the weldment cutlist under the BOM table as well. To do this, the BOM type needs to set to “Indented”, and then the “Detailed cut list” needs to be selected to be able to include cut list into a BOM:

You can also link the balloon text of a particular drawing view to the cutlist table by following the same process mentioned in this article.

I hope this blog helps!
