Save Bodies Feature – MultiBody Part + Custom Properties

Recently we have come across questions from customers regarding to the “Save Bodies” feature with exporting custom properties options.

There are 2 options we can select when exporting customized properties with using the Save Bodies feature:

1. Exporting Custom Properties.

When we create a Save Bodies feature, if there is a body selected to save as a new part, you will see the option “Copy custom properties to new parts” appearing in the Properties Manager:

Once the parts are saved, any of the newly created parts will inherit the same custom properties from the master multi-body part, see the images below:

(This image shows the custom properties inside the new saved parts)

 2. Exporting Cut list properties:

You can select exporting Cut List properties at the same time.

I have created a new Save Bodies feature in the same multi-body part to export the cut list properties.

If you have selected exporting custom properties to new part, then you can only export the cut list properties to the cutlist properties in the new parts:

Exporting Cut list properties

If you wish to view the Cutlist properties of each bodies from the multibody part as custom properties in BOM, you need to clear the option “Copy custom properties to new parts”, then select “File properties” under the “Copy cut list properties to new parts” option. Once this is done, you can see that all the cut list properties from each body will be brought into the File properties under each of the newly created part. If you have selected “Create Assembly”, the BOM in the newly created assembly will be able to extract all the properties:

Auto-assign Names for all the new created parts

(I have selected the Auto-assign Names for all the new created parts, you can rename them and the new names will later on appear on the PART NUMBER list)

If you wish to export the cutlist properties from the original multi-body part to the cutlist properties into the newly create part, you will need to select the “Cut list Properties” under the “Copy cut list properties to new parts.”

If you wish to make the cut list properties shown in the BOM of the newly created assembly, you can set the BOM type to be Indented with Detailed cut list.

If you would like to show the cut list properties on an upper level entry in the BOM, you can dissolve the cut list entry:
