Solidworks Slow Performance Troubleshooting Case Study

Recently I was dealing a Solidworks Slow Performance issue on a new machine. Even when performing simple commands like opening the options dialog box, selecting faces, or editing dimensions we would see an abnormal delay.
After checking common issues like working with files over a network and graphics card/driver issue we were able to rule these out. We did more thorough tests like cleaning out registry and reinstalling as administrator with the antivirus off but the problem remained.
A decision was made to reformat the computer and just install Solidworks to confirm it functioned correctly on the machine and it did. Then additional software was installed and the Solidworks performance was monitored until the offending software was identified.
So what was the causing Solidworks to perform slowly? It turned out to be monitor software called “Samsung Easy Setting Box”. This software is available for Samsung monitors that allows you to partition the screen into various layouts of multiple sections. After uninstalling it Solidworks performed normally.
This just shows how 3rd party software can interfere with Solidworks functionality and performance.
What did we learn?
1. If you are having issues with Solidworks and are using a Samsung monitor check if you are using “Samsung Easy Setting Box” and consider uninstalling it.
2. When issues arise with Solidworks consider what software you have installed on your machine recently as this can affect Solidworks function and performance.
