Use Design Table to Assign Configuration name
Tips and Tricks • Mithilesh • 18 November 2016
Most often we to need a model that will be frequently used something like a toolbox or library file. The hardware like nuts and bolts for different sizes requires creating separate configurations. It’s cumbersome to type configuration name based on its size and type.
The best way to automatically create configuration name is by using design table. In the below example a block is created with 100 x 80 x 10. The requirement is to create multiple configurations with different sizes and name each configuration based on its size.
As we know the design table leverages use to excel functions. Here I will demonstrate the use of ‘Concatenate’ function to achieve the desired result. ‘Concatenate’ function combines the cells. In the below example cells D3,E3 and F3 are combines using syntax
=CONCATENATE(D3, “x”,E3, “x”,F3) [the ‘x’ is text you wish to add between the cells]
Results
Now add the values in other columns
Drag the right bottom corner cell A3
This will apply equation to all cells and desired configuration names are created
