Curtin Motorsport Team Supported by Intercad

Intercad is excited to rally it’s support behind the Curtin Motorsport Team ahead of what looks to be an exciting year in the Formula SAE circuit. Intercad and the Curtin Motorsport Team have collaborated for a number of years, showcasing a partnership between a young minds and cutting-edge technology.

Curtin Motorsport is a collection of promising, like-minded engineers enrolled in Curtin University, Western Australia’s largest university. The Curtin Motorsport Team is a wholly student run organization, committed to developing strong technical, managerial, leadership and hands-on skills through participation in the Formula SAE design Competition.

Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) is one of the leading Engineering Design competition’s in the world. This tasks allows students to draft, design, manufacture and test an open-wheeled car over  12-months. It is a unique and exceptionally challenging project, with full responsibility for all project management, finance, technical development, human resources and logistics placed on undergraduate students.

The competition is divided into two categories: static events and dynamic events.

Static Events include: Engineering Design, Cost, Presentation and Technical Inspection.

Dynamic Events include: Acceleration, Skid Pad, Autocross and Endurance/ Fuel Efficiency.

These events call upon many different aspects of both design and engineering, in which the Curtin Motorsport Team rely on SOLIDWORKS to deliver the most reliable and innovative CAD technologies on the market.

The vehicle design is created in SOLIDWORKS, with a full vehicle assembly of over 800 individual components. Finite element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis software are used to prove designs in a virtual environment, enabling design time reduction and huge cost savings over physical prototyping. All team systems are extended over Curtin’s VPN for access anywhere in the world, with revision management of all wiki content, technical reports and SOLIDWORKS CAD data delivering up-to date information to our team within minutes of changes being made.

Intercad looks forward to working closely with the Curtin Motorsport Team for many years to come and we are keen to see how the team perform in 2016!
