Snowman on the Cloud!

As we don’t have any snow here in Australia at Christmas time, I decided to model a snowman, but this time not in Solidworks, it is all modeled in the 3DExperiance platform using xDesign.

xDesign Platform

So, I decided to open my Christmas present a bit early and started to play with xDesign on the 3DExperience platform.

So, what is 3DExperience and how it works?

3DExperience, in a nutshell, is a cloud base solution that allows you to create, modify, share your designs anywhere and from any device.

Next, how it works?

On the 3DExperience there are many roles and each role has a number of applications that will allow you to get the job done.

First, use the 3DExperience Compass to select what set of applications you want to have access to. In my case, I selected 3D Modeling.

Next, you will need to select my Role from the roles list that I have access to.  In my case, I selected 3D Creator.

Then, select which application you want to use. In my case I selected xDesign

So, what is xDesign?

it is a cloud-based application that will allow you to sketch, model, design, assembly and manage your data. And this is how it looks like.

From here, it is work as usual and that is all that is what I can say. Nothing new that you will need to learn if you already using Solidworks. if you are a new user then I am sure you will find it very easy to use.

I modeled my snowman from one sketch (fully defined)

Then, use the revolve feature.

Finally, completed the model with a sweep for the 2 arms, extrude for the buttons, eyes, a revolve for the nose and a cut extrude for the mouth.

And here you go, my first model in the cloud.

My next step was to add this model to the Christmas tree assembly I created last year. One of the ways to do so, is to save the model to my local HD and finish the job.
