At the start of a project, you have to set up many things.

Starting your project based on a template file will help you with this.

If your company already has a template file, start the project based on it.

If you do not have your own template file yet, the Archicad Template supplied by Graphisoft gives you a basic project structure you can start with.

The default template is located in the Archicad defaults folder.

On PC: \Program Files\Graphisoft\Archicad 26\Defaults\Archicad
On Mac: /Applications/Graphisoft/Archicad 26/Defaults/Archicad

Select new in the Start Archicad dialog, then select the Archicad Template.

As a starting point, you might just take the basic archicad template, replace the generic title block in the Master Layout with the appropriate information for the firm and that’s it.

You can create a template from an existing project file, by saving a normal PLN as a TPL file. Delete the building and unneeded parts, once the file is ready, simply save as a TPL using File>Save As and choose Archicad Project Template from the file-type dropdown.

You can also go to a finished-well developed project, look for things that have been added or modified and recreate them in you template file.

Some firms may find useful to create more than one template file, perhaps for different types of projects e.g. residential vs. commercial or new vs. remodel.

Creating and using your own customized template file increases the efficiency of your daily work.

The time and effort put in to every  project start-up is heavily dependent on the quality of the template that is utilized, therefore, it is worth investing in producing a quality and relevant template for the office needs.
