A recognised leader in preview window technology, Artlantis is the rendering software used by architects, designers and urban design professionals in more than 80 countries.
New to Artlantis 2021
Artlantis 2021 enters the world of Open BIM! Known and recognized for its almost universal accounting, Artlantis 21 now imports the IFC format. This new performance, concerning the model’s geometry only, allows the Artlantis user to receive any model from an interlocutor using a modeler other than their own and, if necessary, to modify the design directly in their own working tool.
Artlantis 2021 integrates LUTs, filters for modifying colorimetry and contrast in order to create a particular atmosphere or correct images in the preview and the final rendering.Artlantis 2021 offers a range of these filters by default. Should users wish to use any custom filter, they can import their preferred LUTs, which are available on various websites as free or licensed .CUBE files.
With Artlantis 2021, you can choose the interface: the one offered by default or the new Easy interface. More refined in terms of settings, it has many predefined values and allows you to modify the settings by level such as “high, medium or low”, for example. This approach makes it easier to understand settings, simplifies and speeds up scene-setting. Advanced users or beginners, all can use it according to their habits, their technical knowledge or their preferences.
With Artlantis 2021, Abvent launches a brand new MediaStore. Completely redesigned both in terms of search engine and ergonomics, its benefits are obvious:
- Clearer and more readable interface
- Faster navigation
- Faster and simpler media search (tag system)
- Direct access via the internet using an AbventID account
- Available for versions 5, 6, 7, 2019 and 2020 of Artlantis…. and ready for future versions!
Big Sur (new macOS)
Apple has recently released macOS 11 Big Sur along with new generation hardware with M1 processors. While many of you are rightfully excited about it, compatibility with Artlantis is not yet confirmed. Abvent development team highly recommends clients on business-critical projects to keep working on macOS 10.15 Catalina for the time being. When purchasing your new hardware, please bear in mind that Artlantis versions currently in use are not compatible with M1 processors.
Artlantis 2020 offers 243 codified colours and tints from Ral Effect, RAL Design and RAL Classic colour chart, which are the defining paint standards in the world of architecture and building construction.
Decrease, or even cancel, the noise from your renderings, typically produced by the reflection from shaders. Want a little noise in your image? Decide for yourself to activate this option or not. The Denoiser tool analyzes the image’s pixels and reduces the noise.
The integrated Media catalog offers 4 new grass types and 6 updated types of 3D grass enhanced with new settings: adjust the color of the grass tufts, apply density variations — the size is automatically calculated zone by zone.”
Portals: a new optimization setting for managing light in Artlantis. When using low settings for a fast calculation of your renders, this option improves the lighting of your indoor scenes and removes the noise from the image.
Developed by Abvent R&D, Twinlinker allows you to create and share virtual visits of your projects online instantly and easily. Just export your images, panoramas and videos created in Artlantis 7 to Twinlinker, then link them to create virtual visits to share widely by email (a simple link) or make available on your website.
Improved artificial lights
The artificial light sampling method, which is more precise, improves the energy diffusion of the light sources in the 3D scene and reinforces the reflection of the satin materials with a brighter gloss.
Smarter anti-aliasing makes it possible to detect the areas to be treated, optimising calculation and reducing rendering times as a result, with no alteration of the quality of the image.
Artlantis optimises the rendering calculation time with the new Render Manager. On your own computer, you use it like the “batch rendering” feature to launch the calculation of images, panoramas and animations locally. Thanks to an application installed on the other Mac or PC computers connected to your local network, the Render Manager scatters the renderings among all the network computers, dramatically reducing the calculation time as a result.
White Balance allows you to adjust the dominant color of a scene to the ambient lighting. Simply set this new parameter to automatic color mode or select a reference color, which will be recognised as white in the 3D scene.
This new option in Artlantis allows users to display a global ambient occlusion to create virtual shadows in small areas where natural light doesn’t go. It brings more depth and relief to both interior and exterior scenes.
During calculation, white model rendering changes all surfaces to white except for those that are transparent. Lights maintain their color for sophisticated environments.
Choose among many pre-set modes (indoor, outdoor, low light) and different definitions (speed, medium, quality), to quickly set the best results!
Artlantis offers two illumination methods: Automatic Light Adjustment and ISO/Shutter. By choosing the Automatic Light Adjustment setting, the lights and neon power used in the scene are automatically adjusted to the sky and sun illumination.
Artlantis is fully compatible with HDRi files for backgrounds and for global illumination. The “enhanced sky” function in the engine settings increases the photo-realism of the images.
By default, Artlantis offers 8 IES pre-set profiles. Artlantis allows you to import downloaded IES profiles from manufacturers’ websites. These files are used to simulate realistic illumination of your projects. For even greater flexibility, Artlantis 6 allows you to easily edit the brightness, color, direction and opening angle.
In addition, neon lights have been completely updated for this version with considerable gains in terms of quality and calculation speed.
With a simple click on the reference plane in the preview window, you set the position and orientation of the projection of the laser. A red line projected 360 in the model allows you to automatically position the objects or textures.
When using the site insertion feature, Artlantis offers a new and simple projection process with more accurate calculations. After aligning the XYZ axis in the 2D view and in the preview window, the model is easily positioned on the background image. A revolutionary integrated tool allows you to add transparency to a foreground image directly in Artlantis to enhance the quality of your projects.

OPEN BIM is a universal approach to the collaborative design, realisation, and operation of buildings based on open standards and workflows. OPEN BIM is an initiative of several leading software vendors using the open buildingSMART Data Model.
OPEN BIM PROGRAM
The OPEN BIM Program is a marketing campaign initiated by GRAPHISOFT®, Tekla® and others to encourage and facilitate the globally coordinated promotion of the OPEN BIM concept throughout the AEC industry, with aligned communication and common branding available to program participants.
OPEN BIM Certification is a technical certification system to help AEC software vendors improve, test and certify their data connections to work seamlessly with other OPEN BIM solutions.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
OPEN BIM supports a transparent, open workflow, allowing project members to participate regardless of the software tools they use.
OPEN BIM creates a common language for widely referenced processes, allowing industry and government to procure projects with transparent commercial engagement, comparable service evaluation and assured data quality.
OPEN BIM provides enduring project data for use throughout the asset life–cycle, avoiding multiple input of the same data and consequential errors.
Small and large (platform) software vendors can participate and compete on system independent, ‘best of breed’ solutions.
OPEN BIM energizes the online product supply side with more exact user demand searches and delivers the product data directly into the BIM.
Thanks to recent technological developments, professionals in building design and development increasingly rely on integrated architectural and engineering workflows. Using the IFC standard as a common language, architects and HVAC engineers can share and coordinate their projects, using the work of other disciplines as a reference.
Increasingly, new developments in Archicad emphasise effective collaboration between architects and structural engineers. This collaboration requires reliable methods for sharing and storing building model information, design solutions and proposals; it also requires a way to manage all the changes made to the building model by any of the participants, while also minimising the possibility for human error.
Archicad supports all major model and data exchange formats and some specialized formats, including intelligent 3D modeling, universal 2D drawing, documentation and image formats.
