Formway was previously completing design analysis by hand, which was time consuming and frustrating for its designers and engineers.

“A 2D drawing is great if you have an engineering degree to be able to decipher it,” says Peter Tierney, Senior Design Engineer, Formway Furniture. “SOLDIWORKS allows you to see on the screen what you are going to make and, not surprisingly, what you see is what you get.”

Results

Formway originally implemented SOLIDWORKS® in 1996. Tierney says the company chose SOLIDWORKS® because the software package had all the functionality it required but at a much lower price.

Now, they have improved their design analysis time by 75 per cent with the implementation of COSMOSWorks Finite Element Analysis software, which helps engineers check the limitations on a design.

“We required quick analyses to test the stress on models and assemblies,” Peter says. “The software gave us consistent results and, because we knew the design was right, we could move a project to the next stage of production more quickly.”
