Jaws snaps up 3D productivity gains with Intercad

Jaws improves its parts design productivity by up to 40 per cent since switching to CAD/CAM software, SOLIDWORKS®

Who

Jaws Buckets and Attachments: one of Australia’s leading attachments manufacturers for the mining, construction, earthmoving, quarrying and materials handling industries.

What

SOLIDWORKS® 3D CAD/CAM software, plus training

Where

Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

Why

Jaws replaced an older 2D CAD/CAM software solution with SOLIDWORKS® from Intercad in 2003.

Palitha Senanayake, Engineering Manager for Jaws, says customers want to see their products before confirming orders, which necessitates 3D design.

“Compared to a flat 2D design, SOLDIWORKS gives us a 3D model that shows all aspects of the product, and combined with [SOLIDWORKS® built in Finite Element Analysis] FEA, gives our customers a solid understanding of what they’re buying,” says Palitha.

Results

Jaws has improved its parts design productivity by up to 40 per cent since switching to 3D computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software, SOLIDWORKS®.

“SOLDIWORKS also makes it much easier for us to present complex designs to our support and engineering teams, and we frequently use it to present ‘exploded views’ of a product to identify parts, and to describe assembly and operation procedures to include in operations and installation manuals.” Palitha says.

“Intercad has helped us identify our training requirements and then arranged face-to-face and online sessions with people with specific expertise.” Palitha Senanayake, Engineering Manager, Jaws Buckets and Attachments
