Winning choice for Triple Eight
Engineering team use SOLIDWORKS® to develop their bespoke V8 Supercar Championship-winning cars
Who
Triple Eight Race Engineering: the powerhouse behind Red Bull Racing Australia, fronted by Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes
What
SOLIDWORKS® plus technical support
Where
Virginia, Queensland, Australia
Why
The need for speed – or rather, efficiency – in motorsports isn’t confined to the race track. It’s during the breaks between races when speed and efficiency count, and when downtime is as much an issue as during a lap around the mountain.
David Cauchi, Race Engineer Car 1 for Triple Eight Race Engineering, says: “If there’s a part on the car we need to improve, it needs to be re-designed and updated quickly to allow us enough time to manufacture and get the updated part on the car in time for the next race. Short design cycle times are critical for us.”
Results
“We signed the initial deal with Intercad in early 2010 because the sport was becoming more and more competitive and we needed to stay one step ahead, and Intercad gave us the best chance to stay there. The support from their team of engineers has been first class, and it was really a no-brainer to work with them,” David says.
Ludo Lacroix, Technical Director of Triple Eight Race Engineering, says: “The results our engineers have achieved in designing championship-winning V8 Supercars using SOLIDWORKS technology, and Intercad’s expertise, have been extremely satisfying.”
