2017 Good Design Award Winners Announced

The annual Good Design Awards is Australia’s most prestigious Awards for design and innovation, and we are proud to see several of our customers recognised for their work

The annual Good Design Awards is Australia’s most prestigious award ceremony for design and innovation, with a history dating back to 1958. The Awards attract entries from around the world for products available on the Australian market, including architecture, industrial/product design, digital and communication design.

This year Central Innovation (the parent company to Intercad) are proud to see several SolidWorks customers amongst the international finalists, including Breville; Blackmagic Design (creators of innovative video technology solutions); and product design / prototyping firm Design Brains. Here’s a round up of their award winning designs:

Design Brains: Ding Lights

South Australian product designer Des Burns designed the Ding Light to ensure cyclists are seen and kept safe on our roads. This has been achieved by allowing the one small light unit capable of creating two zones of light – one front facing, the other side facing. SolidWorks was used in the design phases to test the light’s beam output angles, and ensure it would result in “minimal glare [whilst also using] all the lumen available from the LEDs in the best way” explains company founder and product designer, Des Burns.

The software was also used to design the housing and packaging of the light, as well as the intricate components inside – such as the circuit boards, connectors and wiring routings.

Breville

The team at Breville took home multiple awards for their products the BSM600 Smoking Gun (shown below); Oracle Touch coffee maker; Creatista Plus espresso machine, and Smart Oven Air counter-top oven.
